This book is a practical reference for vibration analysis and condition monitoring.

James Sylvester uses real machinery data and case studies throughout the book. The focus is on understanding vibration and applying it to real equipment problems.

  • Condition monitoring fundamentals
  • Vibration measurement and data collection
  • Signal processing
  • Rolling element and fluid film bearings
  • Gearboxes, pumps and compressors
  • Resonance and system dynamics
  • ODS, modal, orbit and Bode analysis
  • Electrical and mechanical vibration problems
  • Balancing
  • Real machinery case studies

James Sylvester is a condition monitoring and reliability specialist with more than 20 years of experience in vibration analysis, machinery diagnostics and reliability improvement.

He began his career in mechanical maintenance before moving into condition monitoring and reliability engineering.

His work has included the development and implementation of condition-based and reliability-based maintenance programs across the UK and Australia.

James is also the co-founder of JPS Reliability and the author of Enhancing System Reliability Through Vibration Technology. He later co-authored Book of Gold, bringing together real machinery failures, vibration data and practical condition monitoring case studies from industry.
