Lubricant degradation can occur in several different ways. Oxidation is one of the most common, but it is not the only mechanism.

This book explains the different degradation patterns and how they can be identified. It also looks at the tests used to investigate degradation and the actions that can help control it.

  • Lubricant functions and fundamentals
  • Types of lubricant degradation
  • Oxidation and other degradation mechanisms
  • Identifying lubricant degradation
  • Tests used to determine degradation type
  • Factors contributing to lubricant degradation
  • Reducing or eliminating degradation
  • Practical case studies
